These Hollywood A-List bods swear by jumping rope to keep in shape, and with good reason! Skipping is proven to boost cardiovascular fitness, flexibility and coordination, and is an undisputed fat-burning champion. One 10-minute session of moderate skipping will burn between 70-110 calories, while a vigorous 10 minutes will slash up to 200 calories! How? Skipping raises your levels of HGH, your fat-burning hormone, and combining this with interval training, as we do in the workout below, will really supercharge your results. Your core will also get a great workout as it switches on to stabilise your body as you bounce. Best of all, you don’t need to spend loads of money on equipment – you can pick up a good rope for under £5. Jump to it!
How it works
Follow these reps for each skipping exercise.
Beginner: 1-2 x 30 seconds skipping alternated with 30 seconds rest, marching on the spot or stretching
Intermediate: 2-3 x 40 seconds skipping alternated with 20 seconds rest, marching on the spot or stretching
Advanced: 3 x 50 seconds skipping alternated with 10 seconds rest, marching on the spot or stretching
